PERFORMING
ARTIST

I have created a career as a performing artist, in both dance and music. I have been a dancer for more than 15 years and studied piano jazz performance up to the bachelor level at Escuela Superior de Música by the National Institute of Fine Arts, in Mexico City.
My artistic practice is focused on ethno-contemporary dance, and it integrates movement languages of different dance traditions of the world such as the Middle East, Polynesia, Latin America, and Mexico. Acknowledging myself as a migrant and the need to reconnect with my roots, have led me to feature elements of the Mexican and Latin American culture that shaped my identity, and nurture/juxtapose those to my surroundings in Finland.
With the support of the Arts Promotion Centre in Finland-TAIKE, I am focused in studying jarana music and “zapateado” jarocho (Mexican tap-dance) in order to explore the musical, rhythmic and movement elements of this expression.
I belong to Jaranas del Norte, a Mexican folk music ensemble based in Helsinki where I perform as a dancer, jarana player and singer; and Impropias Collective, that researches Latin American identities from an embodied, situated, and feminist perspective.
I collaborated as the artistic director of Askelten Palo (2019-21), a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering the integration of Latin American immigrants in Finland through folk dance. Back in Mexico, I was part of Khamsa Dance Project (2013-17), an ethno-contemporary music and dance company where I participated as dancer for the piece Azahar Chocolatl (2014), improvisation in Anoche, and as creative and artistic researcher in Urdimbre (2018).
Finally, I have performed for various events, venues and organizations, the most recent and remarkable ones being New Theatre Helsinki (2023) Y-festivaali (2022); World Cities Cultural Forum by the City of Helsinki (2022); Helsinki Festival (2022); Kaustinen Folk Music Festival (2022); Etno-Espa Festival by the Global Music Centre (2021); Kolibrí Festivaali (2021); Chapple (2020); The World Music School (2020), Wille -Olohuone ja keittiö in Äänekoski (2020); The National Museum of Finland (2019); Lahti Organ Festival (2019), Latin Folk Night (2018-19), and Mexican Independence Day Celebrations for the Embassy of Mexico in Finland (2018-20).
